Overview
FTL puts you at the helm of a spaceship. There are lots of different ships to choose from. Their crews consist of several alien species and humans. Each on has different traits. Some are good close combat warriors, some can power up special sections of a ship, while others are telepaths or healers.
There’s not much of a story but it’s enough to make FTL an atmospheric game. And it’s a tough one. Very much so. Your ultimate goal is to destroy the huge Boss-Ship in a fight split into three runs. It’s crucial to collect money, weapons and crew before the showdown. Getting there won’t be easy.
An interesting component of the game are boardings that you have to beat down as quick as possible. Open and close doors to extinguish fires or to take away air supply of the attackers.
Manage your ship, increase or decrease energy of its different parts such as shields, engines, air supply, weapon systems, etc. Buy and sell stuff and keep your calm as things become increasingly hectical.
FTL won’t let go of you. It’s a time killer par excellence and it’s unforgiving. But it’s fun. Do yourself a favor and buy this game!
Controls
SPACEBAR for pause (other keys not necessarily needed). Can be paused anytime and things can be arranged while paused.
ESC for menu.
Savegames
Can be saved any time but quits after saving. Only the actual session can be saved. After loading the game you can either resume a saved game or start anew, which overwrites the saved game.
Fullscreen (stretched to screen size or with black borders) or windowed.
Accessibility Tools
Works with Enable Viacam headmouse.
OSK inputs are recognized.
Alt Controller works.
Download a custom window for Alt Controller that contains an ESC-Button and a Spacebar. That way you don’t need an OSK which eats a lot of screenspace, which is bad because FTL takes most of your screen. Alt Controller profiles are basically XML-files, so you are able to open them in Notepad and examine, whether or not you want to trust my file downloads.
